Mount Saint Vincent University Motherhouse Pens

I was fortunate to acquire an oak handrail from the Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse when it was being demolished in 2009.

The rail was used as a handrail in the nursing unit to give support to elderly patients when walking the corridors. I later found out that many of these rails found a home at a dance studio for young people studying dance

The Motherhouse was erected in 1959 after the original Motherhouse (1873) was destroyed by fire in 1951.

A new Motherhouse, Caritas Residence, has been constructed as the new home for the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul.
